Teachers go on strike at Western Christian Academy

The saga of Western Christian Academy continues tonight. We reported on Wednesday that the school funds have dried up and the teachers don’t have any cartridges to print their exams. They had to let the students go home early because there was not enough food to sustain the students who normally pay a minimal fee for their lunch. We say the teachers sent them home because the school is without a principal since the former principal was dismissed last week Thursday by the board controlled by Belize Faith Mission. In addition, the former director of the school, Pastor Ernest Tate was attempting to get grant aid status from the Ministry of Education at the time of his recent dismissal by Belize Faith Ministries who claim he mismanaged the school. Last week Friday Yudora Millhollon Guerra sent a letter to parents informing them that the school would permanently shut its doors on July nineteenth, the day before graduation. Well tonight a teacher from the school, Marlon Robinson, called us say that today is the last day of classes. The teachers have decided to go on indefinite strike until the situation is resolved. They were hoping earlier in the week that the Ministry of Education would get involved, but no word yet from M.O.E. The tragedy is that fourth form students were also getting prepared to take their CSEC examinations.
