Two charged for forged documents
Two men busted with forged residency papers earlier this week have been arrested and charged. Twenty-two year old Salvadoran Marlon Esequias Hernandez and twenty-seven year old Honduran Armando Salvador will answer to the crime of possession of false documents. According to Immigration officials, the arrests are part of an ongoing joint investigation by the police and Immigration Departments. We understand that some time ago, an Immigration officer at the Benque border questioned the authenticity of a resident permit presented to him. Further checks revealed the document was fake and following an interrogation, the holder of the counterfeit cards gave authorities the names of five other persons, all of whom were in possession of false documents. All were subsequently arrested. Sources indicate that as many as fifteen people recently arriving in Belize from Central America and Europe have been caught at the Phillip Goldson International Airport trying to get into the country on false documents.
