Why did “Rick” Vasquez die?

An eighty-two year old Belize City man is dead and the circumstances surrounding his death are not clear. There are several reports that eighty-two year old Ricardo ‘Rick’ Vasquez was robbed and beaten sometime on Saturday night. Reports are that he was in a game shop on the corner of Water Lane and West Street and after he exited, he was assaulted and left to die in a drain. His body was taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where he was in a critical condition up to the time of his death this morning. It’s almost a week since that incident and we are yet to get a report from the police on whether it’s a case of murder. The family is also in the dark surrounding the circumstances of the incident. Today, we spoke with a family member who said that they don’t know what exactly happened that landed Vasquez in the hospital and caused his death because they have gotten conflicting reports as to what may have transpired. The family is awaiting the post-mortem to see what caused the octogenarian’s death.
