Sunrise tops Boom eleven in cricket

Story Picture
Good evening, I’m James Adderley and welcome to this latest issue of Sports Monday. The Harrison Parks National Cricket Competition continues to roll and we caught up with Saturday’s showdown at Burrell Boom between the home team Brave Union in action against the defending champion Sunrise of Lord’s Bank.

For Brave Union things certainly aren’t going good today. This batter pops it up on the infield for an easy out against Edison Parks. And then Parks handles the next batter with wicked to spin that winds up at the wicket. Folks its more Parks supremacy when on the first pitch to this Brave Union batter?he forces the out and would finish with six wickets, limiting the Burrell Boom team to a mere thirty-six runs all out.

In their turn at bat, Lord’s Bank only needed three bats to total forty-two runs, thanks to a twenty-six run performance from Juan Herrera, who slices for four here. And here he is smashing another four to the left side. The defending champion takes the W without even breaking a sweat.

Juan Herrera, Sunrise

“Fairly easy, yes, compared to what we were experiencing before. Right now we’re back in shape and we’re playing, so I don’t think we have that fear anymore. I think Willows Bank was the better team, but I think we could have them.”

Kenroy Roca, Sunrise

This was my first game and I knew it was an easy game. This was the last game for the first half that’s why Al Burn brought me in, because I could have played the rest of the game for the next half. But so far we look good.”

Turning to the cycling scene, we join Saturday’s forty-two mile race on the Western Highway at the halfway mark where Herman Requeña, Mark Staine, Quinton Hamilton and Ernest Meighan are the lead four executing the turn around.

However, this chase group wouldn’t let them out of sight and would eventually catch up.

So we head to the tape and its a two man sprint between Ernest Meighan and Quinton Hamilton and its Jawmeighan with the big W. Quinton finishes second, Herman Requeña third, Ernesto Dangalang Thurton fourth and Douglas Lamb fifth, as Santino’s takes four out of the top five.

Now lets take a peek at the female race, which travelled from Georgie August to mile fifteen and back. And here are the three contenders on their way back to the city.

At the sprint the trio is still intact and put on a wicked burst, but its Violet Morrison with the W, as Fiona Humes takes second and Amelita Knowles third.

And we say big time congrats to Miss Violet who could well win this year’s cross-country run.

Meanwhile folks, the National Junior Road Championship was staged on Sunday. Lyndon “Jungle” Garnett took the top prize, Giovanni “Froggy” Leslie second and Keith Enwright rounds out the top three. We thank Santino Castillo for the stats since the Kevin Hall executive fell down on the job.

That’s it for now, we want to invite you back same time, same place next week. Jah over all, I’m James Adderley.
