San Pedro Man Charged with Attack on Woman

While no one has been detained for either of the shootings in the city, on Ambergris Caye, a construction worker of the San Mateo area of San Pedro Town has been charged for the attempted murder of a woman. Police say that just before four p.m., Alexia del Carmen Melendez was walking to her home in the San Mateo area when a man, who is well-known to her, rode up on a bicycle and attacked her with a knife. The forty-five-year-old was cut multiple times to the neck, before her attacker escaped. She was rushed to the San Pedro Polyclinic for medical attention. Investigators say that twenty-eight-year-old Gilbert Palacio, who is also a resident from the San Mateo area, was detained soon after for the crime and charged for Grievous Harm, Use of Deadly Means of Harm and Attempted Murder.
