Pawnshop Robbery Trio Charged; Cops to Receive Honors

Belmopan police have arrested and charged three persons in connection with last Thursday’s robbery of First Stop Pawn Shop in Belmopan. And it appears that a disgruntled former employee of the establishment orchestrated the heist.  With assistance from the Belize City Police, three city residents have been fingered as the thieves. They are: twenty-year-old Ryan Rhaburn, a pawn broker who has been charged with abetment to commit robbery and twenty-two-year-old Henry Sosa with two counts of robbery. Sosa was also charged jointly with twenty-one-year-old Shada Davis for the crime of Handling Stolen Goods. Today, National Crimes Investigation Branch Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police Joseph Myvett explains:

“There was a robbery in Belmopan which had occurred last Thursday at the Quick Stop pawn Shop where accordingly, two male persons armed with firearms entered the said establishment and robbed the employees of over eight thousand dollars in cash and over fifty-one thousand dollars in assorted jewelries. Police investigation has since led to the recovery of most of the jewels, most of the monies as well and the arrest of three persons: one for two counts of robbery; one for two counts of handling stolen goods and one person for abetment to commit robbery.”

Today, the trio was arraigned in the Belmopan magistrate’s court. While Davis and Rhaburn were given bail, Sosa was remanded and all three are to reappear in court on December twenty-ninth.

The case was cracked in seventy-two hours and on Wednesday; four officers will be recognized for their involvement in solving the robbery. They are Sergeant Julio Shal, Corporal Mateo Carillo and Police Constable Jose Uh, all from Belmopan, as well as Assistant Superintendent of Police Alejandro Cowo from the Crime Investigation Branch in Belize City.
