2 Detained for Dangriga Taximan’s Death
But on Friday morning, investigators in southern Belize had a murder on their hands. A taxi operator, who is originally from Orange Walk, was shot dead inside his vehicle and his body was found in an orchard off the Southern Highway. The body of thirty-two-year-old Jose Alfredo Majil was discovered around seven a.m. near a red Ford Focus with Dangriga license plates. He was last seen alive on Thursday night socializing in Dangriga; hours later he was executed. Police say two persons are in custody:

“On Friday morning last, police received information of a body being found inside an orange orchard one mile on the Southern Highway. As a result police proceeded to the area where they discovered the body of Jose Alfredo Majil, Belizean taxi driver of Dangriga Town with a large cut wound to his throat. Initial investigation reveals that Majil was last seen socializing within Dangriga town on the night of Thursday, October twenty-sixth, sometime around ten p.m. That was the last time he was seen alive. Police have since conducted several searches and detained two persons pending investigation.”
