NEAB Disdains John B. – What About the Children?

John Briceño

The Misuse of Drugs Amendment Bill enjoyed rare bipartisan support in the House of Representatives and to a lesser extent, the Senate. But the words of Opposition Leader John Briceño raised eyebrows. He stated during the debate that the bill did not go far enough and that Belize should be getting on the road to full legalization of marijuana.  Today, the National Evangelical Association of Belize singled out Briceño for condemnation, stating that he has failed the moral leadership test and, with the Government, is complicit in what Scott Stirm described as an unwillingness to protect our youngest from the consequences of marijuana usage and accompanying social ills.

Scott Stirm, First Vice President, NEAB

“And we call out the Leader of the Opposition, the Honorable Johnny Briceño, who aspires to be leader of our nation. Sir, you stated in the House meeting that the Government did not go far enough with this legislation, only indicating that you continue to fail the moral leadership test. We expected the Opposition to oppose and you said they should have done more. For both Government and Opposition: you are failing to protect and preserve our children’s innocence and their mental faculties, by removing consequences that will only increase the exposure and access of marijuana to our children, and that is exactly what happened in Colorado. And for the eternal record, we would rather be persona non grata before mere men, than to find ourselves as persona non grata when we stand before the Living God, which all of us will do.”
