Glenford Bermudez Pleads to Lesser Charge in Wife Killing

In November 2007, a husband killed his wife with a single shotgun blast to the head.   After being tried and convicted for her murder and sentenced to life, forty-six-year-old Glenford Gilbert Bermudez, aka “Bucket,” today opted out of another lifetime sentence and pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter of  Racquel Violet Bermudez.  His guilty plea was accepted because in his caution statement in 2007, he told police that he was provoked by his wife.  Judge Adolph Lucas reserved sentencing for November six, 2017. Bermudez’s attorney, Oscar Selgado, will present a mitigation plea before sentencing.  In April 2001, Judge Herbert Lord sentenced Bermudez to life in prison, but in June 2013, he appealed that decision and months later in November, the Court of Appeal ordered a retrial. That retrial concluded today with a guilty plea for manslaughter. The facts against Bermudez are that on November twenty-second, 2007, Racquel was dropping off a fare at the roundabout in Hattieville when Bermudez drove up and opened fire, hitting her once on the head. In the aftermath, Bermudez attempted to take his life, but was detained by police. The provocation he claimed in a statement was because his wife was kissing another man and had threatened to leave him.
