Mark Medina freed of Murder charge

Story PictureAs we report on a now frequent basis, another murder case fell apart today in the Supreme Court when the main witness that was to provide crucial testimony for the prosecution, could not be located. Crown Counsel Trenia Young entered a nolle prosequi indicating that the prosecution could not proceed with the trial of twenty-five year old Mark Medina charged with the murder of shopkeeper Cuisu Zhou Xu. Media was then freed of the charge by Justice Adolph Lucas. Eight witnesses had already testified but the main witness would have linked Medina to the crime scene. The incident goes back to May twentieth, 2007, when Xu and her children were in their grocery shop at the corner of Basra and George Streets where two men attempted to rob them. Xu was fatally shot in the back but her two children were shot but survived the ordeal. Ku’s husband, Bing Shu, was not in the shop at the time. An undisclosed amount of money was stolen and police soon caught up with Medina. At the time police reported that when they went to Medina’s house he was asleep and that they found six thousand dollars buried in his yard. Police also claimed that the expended shells matched those recovered from the scene of the crime.
