Two wounded in city shootings

Two separate Belize City shootings late this morning have left two men hospitalised at the K.H.M.H. The first incident occurred just after 10:00. According to police, one Eldon Roland was involved in a misunderstanding with two unidentified men when one of them pulled out a gun and shot Roland in his groin. So far police have no suspects.

The second shooting took place just after 11:00 at the residence of well-known business man Jack Charles. Authorities say Michael White, who is no stranger to police, broke into Charles’ yard on Amara Avenue and was taking several items away when Charles caught him in the act. According to police, White advanced toward Charles with a stick and he responded by pulling out his licensed nine-millimetre pistol, shooting White in his left calf and buttock. It is expected that as soon as White recovers he will be charged. This evening Police press officer, Michael Reid stressed that none of the shootings were politically motivated and urged the general public to remain peaceful on election day.
