Ministers ‘Will Vote Conscience’
As stated earlier by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the issue has come up in cabinet. On Thursday last, deputy Prime Minster Patrick Faber was quizzed about it. He said that the hands of cabinet ministers have been freed for them to vote their conscience.
Patrick Faber, Deputy Prime Minister
“It is a matter that’s still…I need to think on a little bit more. But indeed those discussions have happened within the party, within the cabinet as well, as to what moves we are going to make in that direction. It is something that is still under consideration. But on these matters with Guatemala, our party’s position, the prime minister’s position has always been—the members of the cabinet, even though we are bound by that collective view of how we should do things—that each of us will have to vote at that time according to our conscience whenever that question is brought and brought in the proper manner to the National Assembly.”
