Fake Chinese-Belizean and Translator Held for Using Forged Nationality for Social Security

The Immigration Department made a significant arrest today. Two Asian nationals are tonight in custody at the Belmopan police station where they are being investigated for immigration offenses. Chinese national Zheng Yuanran arrived in Belize on Sunday and reports are that by Monday, he went to the Social Security Board office in Belmopan to apply for a social security card, relying on a nationality certificate.  The Chinese man was in the company of a Taiwanese translator.  Alert S.S.B. personnel detected that the nationality certificate was fraudulent and called in the Immigration Department. Both persons were detained by police pending charges of Uttering on a False Nationality Certificate. It is believed that the Chinese national would have proceeded to apply for a passport on the basis of a fake nationality certificate. Police are investigating how the nationality certificate got into the hands of Zheng Yuanran.
