Elections can’t stop Children’s Week

Story Picture
As Election Day draws nearer and the momentum picks up, it is hoped that a special observance next week will not get lost in all the hoopla. March second to the seventh will be celebrated as Children’s Week. A host of activities have been planned for the occasion that will be held under the theme: Children, Our Foundation For Tomorrow’s Nation. Executive Director of the National Committee for Families and Children, Judith Alpuche, says some changes have been made to this year’s schedule of events.

Judith Alpuche, Executive Director, N.C.F.C.

“We have events nationally, we have district sub committees that have been working very hard to ensure that children in all six districts are privy to some activity or the other, so we have a very action packed calendar of events.”

“Judith, election day is falling within Children’s Week, do you believe this will have an overall effect on what you’re trying to achieve?”

Judith Alpuche

“We know we will be competing with the pre victory rallies and the what have you, but we do believe that we will provide a good space, a good non-political space for families and children to come and enjoy themselves at the Lopez Mateo Park from eleven o’clock to six o’clock and we are hoping that people will come out. Also, we do have things like a disability family party in Cayo, we have the Stay in School Jam for the fifth year in a row, in Corozal this time. B.T.L. has been one of our stalwart sponsors, and once again B.T.L. along with the D-Revelation Band will be doing the Stay in School Jam. We convinced them to take it on the road, and so the children from Corozal will benefit from that. They will be encouraged through music and positive entertainment to stay in school, to study hard, to behave well and really to invest in their future.”

The N.C.F.C. is coordinating Children’s Week in conjunction with a number of related agencies.
