New university to set up at Central Farm
A private university in the Cayo District? That’s right, this afternoon during brief ceremonies at Central Farm off the Western Highway, ambitious plans for Galen University were unveiled. Founders of the institution say the idea has been in the works for years and if everything goes right, classes should start this September. According to one of the co-founders, Marion Cayetano, Galen University will offer Belizeans, and their peers from around the world, a unique choice in education.
Marion Cayetano, Head of Consulting, Galen University
“We need to develop a university that is sensitive to program needs in Belize, is conscious that Belize cannot provide the volume of students that it would require, but that if we offered a programme that had international appeal, it would increase the opportunity for Belizeans to get the kind of education that they would yearn for, at least the opportunity would be there.”
“By year six, if we call this September year one, we should have in place and fully operational a school of arts and science, a school of business, a school of graduate studies, a school of medicine, veterinary medicine. Between this point and then, we will be working diligently to develop all of these programmes in a campus that is modern and that offers opportunity for excellent in education.”
