Dangriga man charged with rape
Police have charged a Dangriga man with the rape of his ex-girlfriend. The charge against twenty-nine year old Victor Enriquez follows a report by the woman that while she was walking on Saint Vincent Street around three o’clock on Tuesday afternoon Enriquez accosted her. He then allegedly used a gun to force her to his house where he had sex with her against her will. Police have also charged Enriquez with possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition after they reportedly found the weapon at his house.
In court this morning, Enriquez offered Dangriga Magistrate Harrison Hewlett a different version; that he had gone to the woman’s house to visit a child they share. He said he and the woman willingly engaged in sex, after which he told her he was planning to soon leave the country. Enriquez said she grew upset at this news and started a fuss with him. He claims he decided to leave, but she followed him to his house and again began to quarrel with him. The accused said that was when he drew his weapon. Enriquez met bail of two thousand dollars and was ordered to reappear on April twenty-first.
