Duped Democracia resident now suspect in murder
Twenty-three-year old Nijah Brandon, a construction worker from la Democracia Belize District, was today before the court to answer to a charge of possession of counterfeit currency but even as he was granted bail, he was quickly nabbed by police. On November twenty-third, 2017, police claim they found him with two fifty dollar currency notes at a house on Pelican Street, Belize City. When he appeared in court, he pleaded guilty to the charge with an explanation claiming that he did not know that the notes were counterfeit. Brandon said that while at the house of a friend he realized he had no money to return to Democracia so he sold his shoe for one hundred and thirty dollars which turned out to be the fake money. Within seconds of being released, Brandon was detained as an alleged suspect in a murder that occurred in Ladyville. His attorney complained that Brandon was picked up since last Thursday and had not been told of the murder charge. He is due back in court in late January 2018.
