Women robbed and assaulted on camera on King Street

Murders may have blessedly slowed to a trickle, but that doesn’t mean crime has abated in the Old Capital. Two robbers took advantage of an opportunity on Monday night, but what they didn’t know is that they were caught on camera. News Five has obtained surveillance footage of an attack on two women on King Street in downtown Belize City. Police have indicated that so far no one has made an official report of the incident. The women are seen walking together on King Street around ten p.m., headed in the direction of Albert Street. Suddenly the robbers ride up on them from behind on bicycles, neatly cornering the pair between them. The robber in a white shirt viciously yanks away one of the women’s purses, while the other in darker clothing is doing the same to the other woman off-frame. As the second woman tries to reason with him, he shoves his bicycle at her, knocking her to the ground. The robbers separate, with the second robber seen on the video sprinting off up King Street toward the canal side. The women quickly gather themselves and set off in running pursuit, but it appears they are not able to catch up to him. If anyone has any information on this incident we would advise you call police or Crimestoppers at 0-800-922-TIPS.
