Marvin Moguel & Charles Daniels freed of drug charges
It initially appeared as a case of a drug deal gone bad. Police claimed it had in its possession a Ruger brand pistol and two pounds of cocaine taken from the vehicle of one of the accused men in the Orange Walk incident. But today in court, the case fell apart and the two accused walked free. Thirty year old Marvin Moguel and forty-five year old Charles Daniels, were both charged with drug trafficking in the Orange Walk Court, and were had been on remand since the incident. The matter was transferred to the Belize City court where the charge was withdrawn today by the prosecution on the instructions of the Director of Public Prosecutions. The Court was told that tests by the National Forensic Science Service revealed that cocaine was not detected in the substance taken from the 2005 Chevy SUV. Moguel, a Belize City car dealer, and Daniels, a Los Lagos tire repairman, were both charged on May nineteen after police found what they suspected to be cocaine hidden under the bonnet of the vehicle the two men were in. Moguel was shot several times in a scuffle with two other men from the village of Carmelita. Daniels, who apparently was the driver of the vehicle, was unhurt and it was he who drove Moguel to the Northern Regional Hospital. Police also reported they found money in the car.
