Kids safe after truck rolls in canal
Two children are safe tonight after they narrowly escaped possible injury and at the very least a good dunking in the Collet Canal. Reports are that the boys were playing inside a Nissan pick-up, whose pan was filled with oranges. The vehicle, which was parked facing the canal, suddenly nudged forward and plunged into the water after one of the children knocked the gear shift into neutral. However, with only the front portion of the vehicle partially submerged, the children managed to scramble out, alarmed but unscathed. The Fire Department and the Belize City Council worked together to pull out the truck, which likely received some water damage to its engine. The vehicle belongs to twenty-eight year old Claudia Amaya, a fruit vendor.
