S. Korea donates sporting equipment
Meanwhile, back in Belize, sports got some much-needed support, courtesy of the Government of South Korea. During brief ceremonies at the Youth for the Future offices, coordinator of the Conflict Resolution Unit, Ruperto Vicente, handed over footballs to coaches and organisers of community based programmes. Vicente says this is just one of several handing over ceremonies to be held throughout the country to promote positive sporting initiatives.

“It is our hope that these equipment will assist our youths in burning their energy and keeping them out of trouble. For this reason, we’re taking these community based groups and coaches and making these donations to them, so that the children they deal with will be able to play with these equipments. We’re also making contributions to high schools, because we are of the opinion that every young person in Belize should get the opportunity to play with these equipment, which have been donated to them by the Prime Minister of this country.”
According to Vicente, in addition to the footballs, schools will also receive basketballs, volleyballs and softballs as well as pumps. Schools in the Belize, Stann Creek and Toledo Districts have already been given their sporting equipment while institutions in the north will receive their donations later this week.
