Young sprinter will compete in Canada
One of Belize’s most promising athletes will have a chance to show his stuff this summer on a major international stage. Word has been received by the Belize Amateur Athletic Association from its international parent body that sprinter Jaheed Smith has qualified to participate in the World Youth Championships to be held in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada in July. He qualified on the basis of his best times recorded at the 2002 Carifta Games in Barbados where he clocked eleven point zero eight seconds in the hundred meters and twenty-two point zero four in the two hundred. The World Youth Championships are held every two years for athletes between the ages of fifteen and seventeen.
