$350,000 textbook donation will ease parents’ pain
Many parents of children attending primary school are stressed out at the start of each school year by the crippling cost of those amazingly expensive textbooks. Tonight those families will be pleased to hear that their burden will be lightened significantly through a generous grant from the Commonwealth Relief Fund. The Ministry of Education received the first half of the seven hundred thousand dollar donation this week. The money will be used to purchase and distribute over fifty-seven thousand textbooks to more than thirty thousand needy schoolchildren in all six districts. The Ministry plans to buy twenty-two textbook titles, which are part of the national primary school curriculum. The books include Caribbean Primary Math books one to six, as well as the Active Math, Caribbean Junior English, New Junior English Revised edition and the Finding Out Science books. The grant from the Commonwealth Relief Fund complements the Ministry’s ongoing Free Textbooks Programme.
