Visitors perform to help local schools
They hail from different churches in different states, but three ladies from the U.S. are volunteering their talent and time for a good cause. This coming Saturday and Monday nights, they, along with several local artists, will engage in concerts to raise funds for St. John’s Primary School and Anglican Cathedral College. Rhonda Reid, who has contributed to the cause for five years, says the events are all inclusive.
Rhonda Reid, Singer
“We will have opera, we will gave contemporary Christian music, we will have dance, instrumental, organ…it will be a variety.
We’re given an outline of what we’re to prepare for and what we’re to do, and then we just take it from there and the rest is up to us.”
But Rhonda Reid, Constance Perry, Susan Stevens and many others like them would not have been able to reach out and help were it not for the efforts of Glen Baptist, a Belizean living in New York since 1978.
Glen Baptist, Concert Coordinator
“I have organized events prior to these concerts. I have started doing that since 1995 when I had brought over some organists and soloists. And then one say I had the bright idea that we should make some money so I recruited and I’ve been recruiting people yearly to come to Belize and do these concerts. And I would tell them you don’t get paid, and they agree to do it for the name of the Lord, and that’s what we’ve been doing year after year.”
Contributions will be welcomed on the night of the concerts, which begin at seven at St. John’s Cathedral.
