Two defeats in a row for Yabra
Good evening I’m James Adderley and you’re just in time for this fresh delivery of Sports Monday. Week four of the B.P.F.L. playoffs found three teams with identical two and one records going in. Here in Belize City two of these ball-clubs battled at the M.C.C. Grounds as the defending champion Kulture Yabra plays host to Builder’s Hardware Bandits of Belmopan.
We join the action as this Yabra trio combine on this spotkick over to see Norman Nunez’s offering gets gobbled up by Charlie Slusher. At the other end, the Bandits look to steal the lead with this Jair Pereira header, but Shane Moody sails successfully in defence of his goal.
Folks, we’re only seven minutes in when Eian Henry is forced to concede a penalty to the advance of Landi Pinelo–the call is easy for the referee who also issues a yellow card of the offending player.
As per usual, Yabra sends for Vallan Symns and he delivers as per usual as Belize City team takes an early 1-zip lead. By the way Shane Moody, at this level of competition, this elbow on Pereira could cost you dearly–and he does get a card, but no penalty.
Meanwhile folks, the Brazilian Carlos de Lima should have done better with this opportunity from point-blank range as he allows Shane Moody to make a spectacular save.
At this juncture, the Bandits have now become the protagonist and this left foot from Denmark Casey does create some excitement. And it’s even more excitement when Wilmer Garcia launches this monster spotkick, but at the end of the forty-five minutes Yabra boasts a 1-zip lead.
So we for to second, and it’s Deon Flowers on the move, but talk about a water knee swing people. Yabra then tries to double its lead with this spotkick from Nunez, but Charlie Slusher shows why he’s still a star.
Midway through second half, Daniel Thomas takes down Lima inside the eighteen and the referee rules penalty. Belmopan sends for Julio Valle and his left foot launch is a thing of beauty that ties the ballgame at 1 apiece.
It’s getting late now and Tyrone Muschamp gets the opportunity to break the tie, but fails to get the job done. It’s more Yabra when Muschamp finds Norman Nunez, but his attempt with the left foot fails miserably.
Yabra mounts another all out offensive press in an effort to grab the lead, but Daniel Thomas’ shot is punched out by Charlie Slusher. At the end of ninety minutes of play we’ve got a 1-1 tie.
In overtime play Yabra looks for offence off this spotkick, but nothing doing. So we go to double overtime and Julio Valle of Belmopan serves into danger zone, but they squander the opportunity. Downfield Norman “Tilliman” Nunez tries to come up with the game winner, but he is denied by Charlie Slusher. Now people, you do know this should be the ballgame right here, but Tyrone Muschamp does everything except find the target.
So we go to the decision from the penalty spot and we’ll count it down. Wilmer Garcia puts the Bandits up 1-zip with this offering. Yabra again sends for Vallan Symns to reply, and he could score his second of the day, but Charlie Slusher embarrasses the designated penalty kicker.
Belmopan moves ahead off this kick from Carlos de Lima. Landi Pinelo gets Yabra on the scoreboard with this push. Julio Valle scores his second penalty of the match to make it three straight conversions for the visitors from Belmopan.
Orland Lyons then steps up for Yabra and he unleashes a high riser that crushes the hopes of the Belize City fans. So hold everything here, David Trapp could seal the Belmopan win with a conversion. He out places Shane Moody as the Bandits take their record to three wins, one loss. Yabra falls to two wins and two losses. Life and real and then you’re gonna find out, who’s your daddy?
In other playoff match-up, a second half goal by Bent Burgess gives Sagitun a 1-0 big W over san Pedro Turquoise. Sagitun record now is three wins, one loss, while San Pedro is winless in four opportunities.
