Police know who killed O.W.’s Jaime Pelayo; his past did not come back to haunt him

Jaime Pelayo

As we reported, thirty-five-year-old Jaime Pelayo was gunned down in Orange Walk Town on Friday morning, as he stood outside of a nightclub conversing with two women. The shooting incident also left one of the women injured when she was grazed by bullets. Tonight, police are closer to making an arrest since they are now armed with the identity of the alleged killer. Is it a case of Pelayo’s criminal past catching up with him? That’s what we asked A.C.P. Joseph Myvett at today’s media brief.

ACP Joseph Myvett, Head National Crimes Investigation Branch

“In respect to the Orange Walk murder of James Pelayo, the police is looking for one suspect who has been positively identified and as soon as he is found he will be charged for murder.”

“His father insists that he was shot, that it’s just a drunken person who pulled out a shotgun and started firing indiscriminately and a shot hit his son.  Are you all able to say if that is indeed the case or is this a case of that he was, Jaime Pelayo, was targeted by the gunman.”

“From police investigations, the deceased Jaime Pelayo was along with two other persons standing within the compound of the nightclub establishment when they were approached from a distance by one person who fired in the direction where the three persons were standing.  As a consequence of that, he along with the other persons who he was conversing with, received gunshot injuries.”

Reporter

“But technically the person was firing at that group then.  He was not firing just indiscriminately.”

ACP Joseph Myvett

“He was firing at that group where only three persons were in the immediate area.”

Reporter

“Okay, we know that Jaime Pelayo had a long history of run-ins with the law and that he was active in or had been known to be active in outlaw activities or activities outside of the law.  Was his murder related or perhaps related to his past?”

ACP Joseph Myvett

“None that we know of.”
