New Guatemalan Lady F.M. Makes Impression on Wilfred Elrington
Earlier we made mention of the first meeting between Foreign Minister Elrington and his Guatemalan counterpart, Sandra Jovel Polanco who succeeded Carlos Raul Morales in August. Polanco is the first female Foreign Minister of Guatemala. She asked for the meeting on the sidelines of the SICA summit and a full rundown of Belize-Guatemala affairs was covered in that summit. Foreign Minister Wilfred Elrington shared his impressions of his new counterpart.
Wilfred Elrington, Minister of Foreign Affairs
“She is obviously an experienced person because she is very focused; she knows exactly what the position is for Guatemala, what their interest is. And she is very deliberate too; she doesn’t beat around the bush; she goes right to the issue and indicate what in fact they see needs to be done and how they see the issue moving forward. So she is not inexperienced at all, she is quite experienced. In the tradition of Guatemalan foreign ministers, she is holding the Guatemalan line; but she is not inflexible or arrogant or ‘hawky,’ I found her quite easy to talk to. She’s not stuck-up.”
Also discussed was the case of the murder of tourism police officer Danny Conorquie. We’ll have that on Wednesday.
