Still waiting for U.H.S. notice; House meets January 5

Eamon Courtenay

Hold your horses on a U.H.S. showdown. The twenty-one day waiting limit for the Belize Bank to acquire notice of the Caribbean Court of Justice’s decision has expired. That decision allows enforcement of the thirty-three and a half million judgment for re-payment of a loan guaranteed by government on behalf of Universal Health Services, now Belize Healthcare Partners Limited. But the notice still has not been issued. Nonetheless, a special meeting of the House of Representatives has been called for Friday, January fifth in Belmopan, but the Bank’s attorney Eamon Courtenay says not even he knows what’s going to happen – yet.

“Can we confirm that, that notice from the court of the judgment for the…what was originally 33 million now 90 plus and counting has been served and is hopefully going to be dealt with at that house meeting.”

Eamon Courtenay, P.U.P. Senator

“I have no idea what’s going to be dealt with at that house meeting. As far as I know a date had been set and no agenda has come out so I don’t know what’s going to be dealt with there.”

“But has the notice been provided to you and have you served it on the government of Belize?”

Eamon Courtenay

“As far as I am aware that has not been delivered.”
