Armed robbery leaves businessman in hospital

Story Picture
Less than twenty-four hours later, another bullet put a man in the K.H.M.H. This time, however, the motive appears to be more straightforward. Jacqueline Woods reports from the scene.

An empty cash pan on Wayne Tucker’s office desk suggests that his shooting may be the result of a robbery. Shortly after 2:00 p.m., Tucker, who owns Star Freight, was inside his office at the corner of Evergreen and Morning Glory Streets when someone entered the premises and opened fire. Because the businessman is known to always have the doors closed, it is believed Tucker knew the gunman.

“I’m very nervous. Yes, it happened close to my workshop. I was doing my job.”

“And then you heard one gunshot?”

Martha Novelo

“One gunshot.”

Jacqueline Woods

“You ran outside?”

Martha Novelo

“I ran inside and called for help.”

Jacqueline Woods

“And then when did you see Mr. Tucker?”

Martha Novelo

“After that I was assisting his wife over there. He ran from his office over the next side to his home.”

Kendra Tucker, who was home at the time of the shooting, says when she first heard the gunshot it sounded too close for comfort. She found her husband on their outside veranda lying in a pool of blood.

“He just lay there saying something. All I could have done was start bawling on Jesus and said Jesus, help us, don’t take him away, don’t let the devil take him away, because you know we have great works to be done for you.”

Tucker was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where he was treated for a gunshot wound to the right shoulder.

Kendra Tucker

“He does not have any enemies. Everybody knows my husband is always the humble way.”

When police visited the scene, they found a ransacked office and the victim’s blood splattered over the floor. Though there were witnesses to the shooting, we understand the authorities have not been getting much cooperation. Jacqueline Woods reporting for News 5.

Up to news time, police still had no suspect in the shooting.
