Two-year-old dies in Spanish Lookout
A two-year-old child is dead after she suddenly collapsed at her home in Spanish Lookout on Tuesday. The toddler, Ismelda Salazar, had reportedly been left in the care of her twelve-year-old sister since early morning by their mother, thirty-year-old Diviljilia Salazar, who had gone to work. The twelve year old told her mother that she had just cleaned up little Ismelda and sometime after noon had sent her to dispose of some garbage outside. The girl said that a few minutes later, she heard Ismelda screaming, and upon checking found her lying face down on the ground, already beginning to turn blue. With a neighbour’s help, the girl took her little sister to the local health clinic, but efforts by nurses to revive Ismelda were fruitless. She was then rushed to the San Ignacio Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. A post mortem conducted today concludes that the child died of asphyxia due to suffocation; police do not suspect foul play. Reports are that baby Ismelda had a history of seizure attacks, one of which is believed to be the cause of her death.
