Photographic exhibition features Mexican beaches
When you live in one of those postcard paradises like Belize, you really don’t need to see another piece of sea, sun or sand… right? Maybe, but for those who want to see if the grass really is greener next door, the Mexican Cultural Institute has a show for you.

They say one picture can tell more than a thousand words. This was no doubt the idea of two Mexican artists, Eniac Martinez and Francisco Mata when they captured these shots, taking us to exotic Mexican beaches we may never get to visit. “Litorales”, which is Spanish for seashores, is the title of the almost seventy-piece display currently on at the Mexican Cultural Institute. The photos were actually part of school assignments for the two artists.

“It’s the result of a scholarship that they received. Their projects included an investigation of the seashores in Mexico. I think it’s a kind of register of the geographical conditions in my country. It includes different in parts of sixteen states.”
“It includes different situations. We can find funny photographs, funny moments, and in others we can find landscapes, or portraits of people in those places.”
But the people behind the camera don’t sit around waiting for these shots. Cultural Attaché at the Mexican Cultural Institute, Guillermo Gutierrez, says they have been busy, working as photojournalists in their native land.

“Eniac Martinez has been working also for foreign magazines, like El Pasiante from Spain, and in Mexico he freelance for different newspapers. Francisco Mata is the younger one. He’s also doing different materials for magazines especially. He’s more involved in the cultural arena in Mexico.”
The pieces have been displayed in ten Latin American countries, with Belize being the last stop. Marion Ali for News 5.
The exhibition is open weekdays from nine to five and Saturdays from nine to one. It runs through February seventh.
