Accident victims not yet out of danger
Tonight, the survivors of a traffic accident on the Western Highway, which claimed the lives of four people, remain under close medical supervision, some of them still fighting for their lives. According to hospital officials, Melvin Rodriguez, a passenger in the front seat of the Kia truck, is in critical condition, suffering from head and chest injuries. Rodriguez is being treated in the intensive care unit at the K.H.M.H. His co-workers have all been transferred to the private ward at the K.H.M.H. Rene Guzman is in critical but stable condition as his cardiac condition is still being monitored; Mariano Cruz and Kareem Griffith are also listed as serious, both of whom have been treated for ruptured spleens. Miguel Samoa and Roberto Burgos are listed as serious but stable. Juan Jose Hernandez and Alejandro Madrid are both in stable condition. But three more victims in the accident, Jose Leiva, Eduardo Aguirre and Jose Alas are still admitted at the Belmopan Hospital and authorities there told News Five this evening, the men remain in critical but stable condition. All eleven, employees of a construction company based in Belmopan, were travelling from the capital to Belize City around eight Monday morning when their white Kia truck collided head on with a Geo Tracker at mile twenty-eight on the Western Highway. Two of their colleagues died, one at the scene, Carlos Obido, while Elias Leiva died while undergoing treatment at the Belmopan hospital. It is believed that both passengers in the Geo Tracker, tourists from the United States identified as Lev Sekata and Carlina Bilich, died on impact.
