Ambulance forced off road, no injuries

It was a busy day for emergency medical technician Dennis Smith Junior. While most of us were eating breakfast, he was working frantically to free injured motorists on the Western Highway. By noon Smith was transporting victims of an accident on the Northern Highway to Orange Walk Hospital, and on the return trip he was transferring a patient from Orange Walk to the city. Smith’s long day was made more frustrating, however, when a driver who failed to make way for his ambulance force him to drive off the road.

“Towards Belize City with a patient for Medical Associates. And I’m coming this way and this car decides that she will turn into Independence Drive and to avoid a head-on collision, I pushed to the extreme and she still end up hitting me on the right side there, pushing the ambulance this far, that’s how come the she sustained that damage to her car. Motorists on a whole need to look into their mirrors and see what’s behind them, in front of them, as well as alongside them.”

The patient inside the ambulance did not suffer any injuries and was transferred into another BERT ambulance.
