Cops Suspect Special Assignment Team Member after Complaint

Michelle Brown

It is unclear what injuries WPC Brown sustained during the collision, as she simply complained of pain to her body following the accident.  What is of particular interest is that the businessman had made a complaint against members of the Special Assignment Team, a unit to which Brown was assigned, several hours earlier.  Their acquaintance or familiarity with each other is being called to question, in light of the fact that the officer ended up inside his vehicle on the night of the shooting.

ACP Chester Williams, Commander, Professional Standards Branch

“WPC Brown is currently admitted at the K.H.M.H. in stable condition and is detained and is being treated as a suspect in respect of this matter.  From our investigation so far, we know that Mr. Fareed Ahmad had made a report against elements of the SAT, Special Assignment Team, and those persons against whom the report was made, WPC Brown was a part of that team that the report was made against.  So we are also looking at that angle, in terms of his report that he made to the police on Wednesday the twenty-seventh, one day or couple hours prior to the unfortunate incident where he lost his life.  As soon as Ms. Brown is released from the hospital she will be brought to the police station detained for further interviews.  We have not been able to communicate with her to ascertain from her, her side of the story.  But she’s a suspect and once released from the hospital she will be brought into custody for interviews.  Mr. Ahmad’s report was that he was constantly being harassed by members of the Special Assignment Team and particularly, he was reporting about a matter that took place on December twenty-first, where he alleges that he was stopped at the corner of Vernon Street and the highway by the SAT.  He was handcuffed and brought to the police station to be searched.  He believed that it was unnecessary for him to have been handcuffed just to be brought to the police station for a search.”

“Can you give us a profile of Michelle Brown as an officer?  Has she been involved in any incident where her reputation as a law enforcement officer has been called into question?”

ACP Chester Williams

“Not to my knowledge, no.  Not to my knowledge.”
