Shell donates computers to CITCO
When fire destroyed the Paslow building on September twenty-ninth, among the casualties was the Belize Municipal Court and all of its furniture and equipment. Since that time the insured items have been replaced and the court moved to the Commercial Centre. Today, as operations continue to rebound from the disaster, the City Council received some good news. Joe Habet, the country manager for Shell Belize Limited, handed over to Mayor David Fonseca three computers and all the accessories.

“In that fire they had several computer equipment that was in the Magistrate office that got destroyed. Coincidentally it was around the same time that we were scheduling to replace all our computers in the office and that brings to the point that the computers are not brand new. We have upgraded all our systems in the office and these are computers that became available and they are still very good. The computers became available through that upgrade and I had promised the Deputy Mayor at a visit that he made to me that I would earmark some and consider the City Council after our upgrade is complete and the computers are available.”

“These computers will help us, especially in the human resources area, where we are tracking over four hundred employees and other matters to do with Human Resource. Also in the Traffic Department, there is a need for us to put in additional computers where some of the work there is still done manually, especially tracking the outstanding traffic tickets, which is just about started to be put on the computer system. So these computers will help us in that area and also in the human resources area. And then we go on from there to computerize the other parts of the operation, namely inventory and the actual infrastructure works that is being done on the streets. So instead of having to go out there all the time to check and see if we have done this or that or track it manually, we put all the works that is done on one particular street on that system.”
In the meantime the one hundred thousand dollar server that was donated to the Belize City Council by the Bank of Nova Scotia has still not been put to use. Mayor Fonseca says they have been working along with the bank to install the sophisticated system.
