Western Highway collision claims one life
A traffic accident on the Western Highway this evening has claimed the life of a Belize City man. Thirty-two year old John Miguel, a driver for the Amandala newspaper, was on his way into the city, when around mile eight and a half, the white Isuzu pickup he was driving collided with a dump truck. According to Sergeant Raymond Berry of the traffic department, the driver of the dump truck, fifty-seven year old Baltazar Goodger, says he saw the pickup swerving before it hit him.

“We have spoken with him and he is saying that he was travelling towards Hattieville and the other pickup was coming this way towards Belize City, and he noticed that the vehicle was doing a little swerve. Apparently, he didn’t know what was causing it, but when the pickup reached up to the truck it hit on the side of his truck, causing the pickup driver to lose control and spill over.”
Miguel, who started working at Amandala in November of 2002, had just dropped off reporter Melvin Flores at the Hattieville Prison and was on his way back to the city. Police continue to investigate the cause of the fatal accident.
