2 Dead in Separate Road Accidents in North; in a Third, Policeman Gravely Injured
There were two road traffic accidents in the north, which claimed one life. Around two-forty on Saturday afternoon, police responded to an RTA on the Xaibe-Patchakan Road in Corozal. According to police, fifty-two-year-old Eriberto Tzul was driving a car from the direction of Patchakan heading towards Xaibe when he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a culvert. Tzul was taken to the Corozal Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. We reached out to Tzul’s family, but they declined comment. They said that Tzul’s brother was inside the car and claim that the accident was caused by a dump truck loaded with soil.
A pregnant woman also perished today as a result of an accident in the north days ago. Twenty-eight-year-old Shakira Villanueva succumbed to injuries she sustained in an accident last week in Guinea Grass, Orange Walk. She was hospitalized after she was knocked down on Thursday night around nine while crossing the road at the entrance of the village. A sixteen-year-old will be charged for this RTA.
There was another accident in Orange Walk over the weekend. Around ten-fifteen on Saturday night, a vehicle and a motorcycle collided on the Belize Corozal Road. Twenty-seven-year-old Police Constable Enid Tillett received head and body injuries after he was hit by a vehicle driven by twenty-four-year-old Jesus Enrique Muñoz of Orange Walk Town. Muñoz as been charged with driving motor vehicle without due care and attention, Failing to give way when changing direction, Negligent Grievous Harm and using Motor Vehicle without third party risk insurance.
