2 Charged in Attempted Murder over Weekend

Jason Anderson

Gang violence isn’t letting up, despite the roundup of gang members across the Old Capital. Tonight, a fifty-six-year-old man is fighting for his life at the K.H.M.H. following broad daylight shooting on Saturday afternoon on Iguana Street, near the Belize City Racoon Street Police Station. Steve Finley and thirty-year-old Tyrone Barcelona were fixing a vehicle when a Nissan Altima car drove up; two men exited and opened fire on the duo. While Barcelona, who it is believed was the intended target, was hit to the left arm, Finley was shot multiple times to the body. Less than twenty-four hours later police discovered the vehicle abandoned in proximity to Supal Street Gang territory.  Assistant Superintendent of Police Alejandro Cowo told the media today that three persons will be charged for the shooting.

“Sometime after three p.m., police responded to two persons being injured and as a result, they proceeded to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where they observed Mister Steve Finley with several apparent gunshot wounds to the body and another person by the name of Tyrone Barcelona with an apparent gunshot wound to the upper shoulder. Mister Barcelona was admitted and then later discharged from the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital and Mister Finley is listed in a critical condition at this moment. So far police were able to understand that on that date, sometime after three, they were doing some mechanic works on a vehicle that was parked on Iguana Street, when a black in color vehicle just stopped beside them and fired several shots at their direction, causing injuries to Mister Finley and Mister Barcelona. So far, police found the vehicle yesterday at corner of North Creek and Central American Boulevard. It was impounded and process. Police at the scene found nine expended shells and inside of the vehicle they found two expended shells. Three persons so far have been detained and will be charged sometime this afternoon or early tomorrow morning.”
