NEMO says 27 houses damaged in Monkey River
The early morning earthquake lasted just over a minute and by today the National Emergency Management Organisation says it has responded to the needs of those affected. NEMO C.E.O., Colonel George Lovell, told News Five today that the water supply had been restored to hardest hit village, Monkey River and purified drinking water had been provided to the villagers. Efforts are also underway to assist those who suffered structural damage to their properties to get back on track. An assessment shows that twenty-seven houses suffered infrastructural damages in the village. Some of the structures sank several feet into the soft earth while others fell completely off their foundations.
