Escaped prisoner captured, wounded by captors
An escaped prisoner is recuperating from bullet wounds to both legs after he reportedly attacked the prison officers who hunted him down. Thirty-eight year old Delito Ortiz, a trustee inmate, reportedly escaped around two-thirty Thursday morning from Yalbac Ranch where he and others had been taken to do some work. Prison officer, Alfredo Urbina, said when Ortiz was caught eight miles away from the ranch, he refused to surrender. In fact, Urbina alleges Ortiz even turned on the officers with a machete, and that was when he was shot. The facility, according to reports, has minimal security features and the prisoners who are taken to work on the ranch are usually not considered dangerous. Police, as a matter of policy, will investigate to determine whether the shooting was justifiable. Meanwhile, Ortiz lies in stable condition at the K.H.M.H.
