Jane Usher: Broke after holiday? Still save!
Traditionally, this time of year is referred to as “Mawga Season”, with more than a few Belizeans downright broke after the holidays. In the interest of helping you organize your finances, this afternoon we stopped in to see Ms. Jane…as in Jane Usher the aptly dubbed Queen of Credit Unions, for her suggestions.

“Well it’s time that they should re-budget. Go all over their finances, we sit here, we discuss with them, we talk with them and we make them refinance their loans and come over and be good members again. And it works! …For those who get paid twice a month, save something. I always tell them, what they save belongs to them, what they borrow belongs to me, they have to return it. But what they save is theirs, and it goes for them because they get dividends and if they leave it, it just grows and it gives them borrowing power too… I know many of us cry hard time, but I think sometimes we bring the hard time on ourselves.”
