Resolutions: How long do they last?
They are conceived in the mind and solemnly pledged, but New Year’s resolutions may be simple romantic notions because no one ever seems to stick to them. But every year, Belizeans join thousands around the world in making them anyway. Today, News 5’s Marion Ali took to the streets to find out what you are planning to change in your lives this year.

“Mek mi home better and everything. Have a happier life than weh gone last year. That’s what I want for me and my family.”
Marion Ali
“Thinking about kicking any habits?”
Citizen #1
“Well the only habit I got dah mi cigarette, and I no think I could kick that right now…After a while maybe, yes.”
Citizen #2
“Well drinking habit, I’m trying to give that up, drinking. But besides that I noh have no habits. I drink a little beer now and then, stout, Guinness, so that’s what I’m trying to give up.”

“Have you had any since the New Year?”
Citizen #2
“Well no, well yes, yes, yesterday I had a few, about three.”
Marion Ali
“That’s not a good way to start.”
Citizen #2
“I know, but it was the holiday and the New Year just started yesterday, so for me it’s beginning today now the New Year.”
Citizen #3
“Definitely try to be honest in all my dealings and try to be fair to all mankind. That’s my New Year resolution.”
Marion Ali
“That’s a good one; any projects for the New Year?”
Citizen #3
“I’m presently pursing a programme at the University of Belize. I hope to graduate and start working.”
Citizen #4
“Start mi own business. I tired of work.”
Marion Ali
“So you’re set that up and have people work for you?”
Citizen #4
“No I just plan to build up the house and rent it out, run taxi.”
Marion Ali
“You see that forthcoming this year?”
Citizen #4
“Yeah, definitely, it’s already in the making.”
Citizen #5
“I want to do good this year. I want to do good business and good life. San Pedro and Caye Caulker I want to visit.”

“I think the city is a bit congested. So this New Year it’s out into the farm and start building.”

“So you’re looking forward to a village life this year?”
Citizen #6
“That’s right. It’s nicer out in the village.”
Marion Ali
“Any habits you want to kick?”
Citizen #6
“Well stop the drinking of the beer, get off that.”
Citizen #6
“Try to better myself help others to try help their self as well.”
Marion Ali
“And how are you gonna do that?”
Citizen #6
“Try harder with my belief in God, my faith, my courage, things that inspire me to motivate, mentally, physically and most of all, spiritually.”
