New Year’s baby goes home with plenty presents
On Wednesday, the staff of the K.H.M.H. held its annual handing over ceremony to celebrate the birth of the first baby of the year. Six pound, eleven ounce Shemar Alexander Williams was born at one fifty-eight on the morning of January first, the second child of Nicole Cruz and Wendell Williams of Belize City. The proud mother, says Shemar showed up when he was ready.

“Because they gave me December thirtieth, it came two days later.”

“How do you feel about that?”

“I’m overwhelmed, happy. My whole family wanted first of January, so they got their wish.”

“Is this the first time you’ve got a child who was born in the new year?”
Nicole Cruz
“Yeah, first time. I had the first; he was born November twenty-ninth 2000.”

“Plan on having anymore?”
Nicole Cruz
“No, not right now.”
Both mother and child are doing fine and were released today. Their goodbye gifts included a baby tub filled with baby clothes from the Lions Club of Belize, and a Seven Seas Gift Pack, a stock of baby pampers and a one hundred dollar gift certificate from Santiago Castillo Limited.
