AIDS patient receives donation from viewers

But in the midst of celebrating the “what ifs” of the future, one Belize City woman is trying to face the certainty of her life with what strength she has left. We profiled Delmi, just one of hundreds of Belizeans living with HIV, in November. Tonight, we give you the latest chapter of her story.

Since we last visited Delmi on November twenty-eighth, she has been in the hospital for two weeks and was only recently discharged from the K.H.M.H. Delmi, diagnosed with HIV in 1998, appears to be in the final stages of the disease. Today I went to her home to deliver gift packages donated by generous viewers to the impoverished family.

“It’s a gift package for your daughter, a gift package for your son, and as well a shopping gift certificate. This is from Nicole Cain; it’s a two hundred dollar shopping gift certificate. Your daughter to go by James Brodie and Company and she can get some groceries for you. There are as well some cash donations from some viewers and the presents for your son and daughter. The people who sent this gift package sent this card, and there is a twenty dollar bill in there too.”

It is not certain just how much longer Delmi will be with us as today she was too sick to get out of bed and is presently unable to speak. So on her behalf, her family sends their love and gratitude to all those persons who have helped them during this difficult time. Jacqueline Woods for News 5.
