Tropic passengers say they saved themselves

If you happened to catch Good Morning America today, you might have seen some familiar sights. The Dreyer family, who were onboard the Tropic flight that made an emergency landing just off Ambergris Caye, appeared on the national television show to tell their story. According to the Dreyers, they didn’t know the plane would go down and were totally unprepared for the impact. The family told ABC News it was Lance Dreyer who opened the rear door of the plane to let the passengers out, while another passenger, armed with a V.H.F. radio and a G.P.S., alerted the authorities of their location. The Dreyers also made appearances on Houston-based television stations and claimed they spent ninety minutes clinging to the aircraft waiting to be rescued. The fact that their story made the international press did not surprise Tropic President Johnny Greif.

“One of the passengers onboard is trying to get his fifteen minutes of fame because he is claiming he was rescuing the passengers and doing a lot. And we think he is just trying to get it in the press, so that is why it has made the international press. I guess it can go one or two ways: either people could worry about travelling to Belize, or the more likely in my opinion is they could say this is a non event.”

The Dreyers have stated that they have not decided whether to sue Tropic Air or not.
