PUP will confirm council slate on Saturday
T’is the Christmas season, but who says politics can’t be a part of it. The People’s United Party will be holding its City Council convention Saturday at the Wilton Cumberbatch Field on Caesar Ridge Road. Incumbent Mayor David Fonseca says the slate, for what should be an endorsing convention, features four new candidates as part of his party’s effort to involve more women in the political arena.

“We have them coming forward to say that I want to take part in this leadership in running the affairs of the city. So it’s more of a willingness to come forward and having to actually get them out to come out. So it’s a part of the movement of the P.U.P. party.”
The four new candidates are Debbie Vasquez, Jenny Craig, Rachel Montejo, and Jacqueline Welch. The incumbents running for re-election are: Yasmin Shoman, Austin Waight, Marshall Nunez, Darrel Carter, Danny Madrid, and Eloisa Trujeque. Fonseca says his new Council, if elected, will focus mainly on enhancing the southside of the city. Saturday’s activities begin at 3:00 p.m. while the official ceremony starts at 5:00.
