CitCo Makes Awards to Employees
The City Council recognized twenty-five persons with certificates today after they received training for five weeks in either computer software or Caribbean legal system. Staff of the City Council, police officers, and other partner organizations participants received their certificates from Mayor Darrell Bradley who shares that this kind of training serves to empower employees to deliver quality service.

“The City Council, about a year and a half ago, created a training unit and that is headed by Ms. Margaret McKenzie, of course she herself is a teacher at various tertiary level institutions in Belize; former Chief Magistrate. She has really championed this idea of capacity building within the municipality and so this is only one of a series of training activities which have been going on for the last year and a half. You heard her in her presentation mention in the next two weeks they are going to start another training. We really believe at the City Council that empowering a staff member and empowering individuals, really furthers our overall objectives of promoting the delivery of quality services for those within our community. We brought together colleagues from the different departments of the City Council; personnel from the Belmopan City Council; members of the Belize Police Department; representation from BAPDA. The idea of the training is so we can really empower our skills and they are meant to be very practical; meant to complement persons experienced in the work force and just meant to make them more effective and efficient in the delivery of high quality service. We had a member of our sanitation department who underwent the training and that person has now done a five week training of a legal course and she has successfully completed the training. We also had two of our City Councilors who completed the training. They were saying they wanted to be aware of some of the legal and regulatory implications of being a Councilor and the work of the councilor. I think on all accounts this will really help us to better perform as a municipal body and it also helps us to build collegiality with the police and other municipality entities who also shared and benefited in the program.”
