New stamps out for Christmas
Today might have been the last day to get your letters and packages in the mail in time for Christmas, but in case you’re feeling lucky, the Belize Post Office is “bigging up” their new stamps for the season. The special edition, featuring orchids of Belize, come in denominations of twenty-five, fifty, sixty and seventy-five cents, as well as one and two dollars. All the stamps are available in sheets of twenty, while first day covers can be bought for seven dollars and ten cents. According to Emelia Cayetano of the Belize Philatelic Bureau, stamps offer a unique Belizean option to Christmas shoppers.

“Instead of buying Christmas cards, I want to encourage them to buy stamps and first day covers. Because after Christmas the cards are usually thrown away, but if the buy stamps and first day covers they will used for souvenirs and the friends and families that you send your stamps and first day covers to will cherish it as a collector’s item or as a souvenir.”
The stamps were printed by the House of Questa in the United Kingdom.
