Missing businessman wanted by Mexican cops

A German businessman who is said to have built a financial empire in Belize remains missing tonight, but there are growing doubts that his disappearance is the result of any foul play. Steve Saemmler-Klein, managing director of Butterfield Reimer and Associates, as well as a number of related businesses, has not been heard from since leaving for Mexico sometime in late November. Initial reports from employees indicated that he may have been kidnapped or even murdered in that country, but information reaching News 5 suggests that Saemmler-Klein is more likely to be on the run from police than any criminals. Sources in Cancun, where Saemmler-Klein had opened a branch of his investment company, indicate that his home in a posh Cancun neighbourhood has been taken over by Mexican police. Those officers tell visitors that Saemmler-Klein is being sought in connection with allegations of fraud. It is not known how the disappearance of the boss has affected the Belize based operations of Butterfield Reimer and the related Caribbean Building Society.
