Victim fights robber, is shot in hand

A Cayo baker is lucky to be alive tonight after he tried to disarm a gun toting robber. Thirty-nine year old Nelson Alfaro of the Spike of Gold bakery in San Ignacio told police that around 8:00 Tuesday night a masked gunman entered the bakery, pointed his pistol at Alfaro and took three hundred dollars from the cash register. At that point, Alfaro grabbed the gun and the two men fought over the weapon. The struggle ended when the robber pulled the trigger and shot Alfaro in the hand. The assailant then took off, but it may not be for long as police have detained a suspect pending further investigation.
